FirstGroup have warned that a north-south divide is opening up in its UK bus business, with growth slowing in Scotland and northern England. The Aberdeen-based operator blamed the weak economy and lower consumer spending in the north, where it has more urban than rural services.

Overall revenue grew to £3,168.8m and 1,000 buses will be on order over the next two years FirstGroup has reported overall revenue grew to £3,168.8m (up 3.2% from £3,069.9 in 2010), in its financial statement for the six months leading to September 30, 2011. Key findings show:
National Express grows across all divisions
Organic growth across all divisions. Revenue rises 5% National Express Group PLC has released its interim management statement for the nine months ending September 30, 2011. The operator achieved organic growth in all divisions, with a 5% rise in revenue on the previous year. There were also further improvements in profit margins and cost savings.
Stagecoach revenue up across the board
Stagecoach Group plc released a trading update on November 1, 2011. Like-for-like revenue growth for each of the group’s divisions was as follows:
40% growth for Edwards Coaches
Pontypridd-based Edwards coaches in South Wales has seen a 40% increase in its holiday business revenues during the nine months to October. The firm acquired Swansea-based Diamonds Holidays out of administration in January. The failed business, which included Brian Isaac Coaches, had a combined turnover of £10.8m.
