Hastings-based Stagecoach driver Jon Ellis ran his first half marathon at the seaside town’s 28th annual event. Jon, 30 from Ore, Hastings, completed the route in 3:16:09 and raised over £300 thanks to sponsorship from friends and family for his local Rainbow Nursery.
Epsom drivers donate to charity
Drivers from Quality Line, the bus division of Epsom Coaches Group have donated £1,500 to SSAFA’s Norton House in Headley, a home dedicated to helping injured service personal and their families.
Bakers drivers get London knowledge
Coach drivers at Bakers of Biddulph have all attended a new series of courses ‘Safe driving in London’ developed to enable coach drivers to gain a better understanding of the different traffic flow management special routes for the Olympics and various colour codes for separation between buses, cyclists and other vulnerable road users.

First drivers wear a hat in Leeds for brain tumour charity
First in Leeds is asking staff and passengers to Wear a Hat to help Brain Tumour Research (BTRS) raise awareness across Yorkshire about the prevalence of brain tumours and the need for vital research.
First bus drivers in Leeds are setting an example by wearing hats and inviting people to pledge their support for Wear A Hat day. Posters have also been put on First buses in Leeds to promote the event.
Larger-than-life tribute to top driver
Stephensons of Essex has paid tribute to its award-winning bus driver by putting a full-length photo of him on the back of one of his regular buses on route 60 in Southend – an Optare Olympus bodied Scania.
Having won the Top National Bus Driver title in the UK Bus Awards, Trevor Owen’s bosses arranged for his achievement to be proudly proclaimed along with a larger-than- life picture of him holding his trophy.

Grettons Coaches driver Malcolm Smith has been praised for his decisive action in evacuating 27 school pupils before his vehicle burst into flames.
Mr Smith acted immediately after smoke was spotted coming from the vehicle’s engine as it transported Year 6 pupils from Oakdale Primary School in Peterborough to Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire on March 15.
Bus driver robbed at gun point
A First Midlands bus driver was robbed at gunpoint in Northampton.
His vehicle, which was operating on route 29, was parked at the bus stop on Avon Drive, Kings Heath at about 1830hrs last Monday (February 27th) when the offender pushed the emergency stop button at the back of the bus.
Excelsior Coaches driver retires
Excelsior Coaches driver Paul Wheatley retired February 28 after two decades of service.
During his employment Paul witnessed numerous changes at the Bournemouth-based firm, including a change in management, the introduction of different vehicles and new business strategies.
Olympic site driver swims her route
HCT driver swins 1,270 metres as part of arts project
Semina (Sam) Yousef, one of a team of 30 Hackney Community Transport (HCT) drivers on the Olympic Park, swam the distance of her 1,270-metre route in the 17,500-capacity Aquatics Centre. The distance is equivalent to more than 25 lengths of the 50-metre competition pool.
